Deputy President William Ruto is the man Kenyans have picked as their preferred next President, former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has said.
Ruto is among the prominent Kenyans and leading politicians who have declared their interest in the seat, and has been working towards securing it, including by bringing on board new allies.
Among them is Magara, who says that Kenyans have identified the DP as the man with their interests at heart and will, as a result, most likely hand him power.
"This is why you see several Kenyans are supporting Deputy President William Ruto because he has demonstrated over time his commitment to the good of the nation," the People's Democratic Party leader says in an article in The Star.
He has cited among others, Ruto's vow to revive the economy and share resources equally among Kenyans as one of the proofs that he is the man for the job.
"The DP has demonstrated he has the right policies to develop every corner of the country through the bottom up economic model," says the leader, one of the former allies of ODM leader Raila Odinga who have since decamped.
Magara, a former Assistant Trade Minister, was an ally of Raila until 2010, when the ODM party denied him its ticket to participate in the South Mugirango mini polls after falling out with the former Prime Minister.
This was after the annulment of his 2007 election over electoral irregularities. He had secured the seat on an ODM ticket. He was, however, not found guilty of any involvement in rigging.
He now says that Raila will be in the 2022 race and should not be expected to endorse anybody else, terming him a self centered man out to achieve personal goals, predicting a defeat for him.
But Raila remains confident that it is finally his turn to lead and recently, while speaking in Gem, Siaya County, said that he is already putting up a mega team that will sweep across the country like a tsunami.
