Baringo County assembly was left in chaos after the assembly overturned the BBI constitutional amendment bill. Chaos erupted after the counting process was finished, prompting law enforcement officials to lob teargas canisters into the assembly.
Members of the assembly and journalists who covering the proceedings had to run for their lives in the midst of the commotion.The scuffle ensued after Mogotio Ward representative, Charles Kosgei, slapped his Kabarnet ward counterpart whilst he attempted to seize the microphone from him.
The sergeants at arms who were present during the scuffle, tried to loosen up the irritated MCAs but they were overwhelmed. They had to seek help from the police to bring order inside the house which almost turned into a battlefield.The Jubilee Kanu rivalry playedd out at some point of debate of the record, with the ruling party which has majority contributors vowing to shoot it down.
The incident comes barely an afternoon after 31 Jubilee-allied MCAs were summoned to jubilee headquarters by secretary general Raphael Tuju.it's far said that Mr Tuju directed the 12 nominated MCAs to support BBI or risk losing their jobsThe Assembly majority leader, Lawi Tallam, said the party's secretary general announced that the elected individuals can pick whether to pass it or oppose it
This has not long past down well with the MCAs who've accused the county's Senator, Gideon Moi, who is also a proponent of the document, of being at the back of the intimidation push for them to back it.Outspoken Mochongoi MCA, Kipruto Kimosop, claimed that some party officials with vested interests need not dictate what they need to do on pertinent matters such as the constitution.
Baringo County meeting has 45 MCAs with 32 being from the ruling party. The independence party Kanu has 10 members while the 3 others were elected on Kanu and ODM tickets respectively.
