Truth Behind Alleged Photo Showing Siaya Residents Vandalising Highway

A photo of a man going rounds showing a man vandalising a newly constructed highway using an axe, allegedly taken from Siaya County amid the ongoing Azimio's protests was not taken from Kenya.

According to the analysis conducted by the Kenyans.co.ke, the photo was taken in South Africa, a move that dispels rumours that it was from Siaya County during the Azimio protests.

According to kenyans.co.ke the white road markings at the centre of the road is different from the conventional yellow lines used on major highways in Kenya.

In Kenya, such dual carriage lanes are separated by continuous yellow lines with white lines used to mark the edge of the roads.

The road being destroyed is R33 road which is a major highway in South Africa and links Pietermaritzburg with Lephalale as it cuts across four major towns.

The photo is also said to have trended in Nigeria during their general election.
