Chameleons mostly live in the rain forests and deserts of Africa. The color of their skin helps them blend in with their habitats. Chameleons that hang out in trees are usually green. Those that live in deserts are most often brown.
They often change color to warm up or cool down. (Turning darker helps warm the animals because the dark colors absorb more heat.) They also switch shades to communicate with other chameleons, using bright colors to attract potential mates or warn enemies.
According to history of Agikuyu elders, there was a time when men rose again as soon as they died. One day God sent chameleon to tell people that they will not die again.
Being a slow animal in nature, chameleon took long time to reach the earth to pass the information. In her journey chameleon took long as she was expected by people who were egarly waiting for her.
On reaching the earth, chameleon found some people already death. When people saw her walking towards them , they mocked and despised her so much. "How come you delay the information? Now that some people have died because of you, what will you tell us?" People complained.
Since then, Agikuyu elders and entire community despised chameleon and whenever they spots these animals around, they don't respect them.
