Interior cabinet secretary Kithure Kindiki said that the amnesty period given to surrender arms will not be reintroduced, warning that anyone found with undocumented weaponry will be dealt with as a bandit.
His remarks came days after President Ruto ordered the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces(KDF) officers to joint security operations with the police in all bandit-prone areas.
Proffesor Kithure Kindiki on Friday said the deployment of multiagency teams in the dangerous and disturbed areas in six North Rift counties is complete.
Dr Ruto further gave a three-day amnesty for the surrender of firearms in the banditry-hit regions.
The National Police Service-led operation that has roped in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops is now receiving command and control from a remote situation room established in the area, their priority being flattening bandit hideouts.
The war on bandits in the region must be won at all costs and with the enhanced personnel and equipment we shall pacify the area,” he added.
