The High court has ruled that the Orange Democratic Movement, ODM party leader Raila Odinga has a case to answer after declaring Monday a public holiday.
While issuing the ruling, the High Court ruled that there is a well laid down procedure for the declaration of public holidays in Kenya.
The High Court was ruling today on a case that was filed by the former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who sued Azimio leader Raila Odinga for unlawfully giving himself powers the laws of Kenya delegates to the Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Raila made the declaration two days ago as he steps up efforts to pile pressure on President William Ruto’s regime.
The Judge explained that the case filed by Sonko is of great public interest. The High Court judge further ruled that the pleadings be served on all parties immediately.
The case is set for mentioning on Tuesday for further directions. Apart from the former Prime Minister, Sonko also sued Wiper party boss, Kalonzo Musyoka, Jeremiah Kioni, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, Wiper Democratic Party, George Wajackoyah among other leaders.
He has sought an order prohibiting Odinga’s team from declaring or stating Monday to be a public holiday.
