Thiago Silva featured in the center of a three - man defense in those fixtures, and started in the same position for the London derby, but was unable to see out the full 90 minutes this time round.

Thiago Silva was substituted in the 36th minute of Chelsea's 1-0 win over Tottenham on Thursday night with a thigh injury and looked in some discomfort as he was helped off the field.

Thiago Silva unlikely to be fit for Chelsea's Premier League match against Sheffield United on Sunday leaving Thomas Tuchel with only three - team center - backs.

Speaking after the game,Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel admits it is tight as to whether the 36 - year - old will be able to play at Bramall Lane, although a full assessment won't be made untill Friday.

The blues will hope that the issue doesn't keep him out of acting for any length of time with a trip to Sheffield United looming large on the horizon.

Thomas Tuchel's men will take on the blades at Bramall Lane on Sunday before their focus switchs to the FA cup and a fifth round clash against Barnsley on February, 11th.
