Tharaka-Nithi police have arrested a woman suspected of facilitating the female genital mutilation of a fourteen year old daughter.
The suspect woman was arrested by Kathangacini Chief Roringo Thiora and his assistant, Lydia Karimi with the help of members of Nyumba Kumi initiative, and handed over to Tharaka-North sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officers, according to the Daily Nation.
The class seven pupil had been missing for some days and was spotted by members of the public coming from a hide out to pick food from her grandmother's house.
The public then alerted members of the nyumba Kumi initiative who then informed the chief.
Authorities in the area have asked parents to watch out for their children to avoid them being forced to undergo the barbaric procedure.
