4 Things Raila Odinga Must Do To Guarantee Presidency in 2022

There are five things, in particular, Raila Odinga must do to clinch the top seat come 2022. However, it will also be a joint effort from the ODM party and to a lesser extent President Uhuru Kenyatta; who is keen to make Raila his successor.

1. ODM must guarantee free and fair nominations

The manner in which ODM conducts its primaries will make or break Raila's plans to clinch the presidency. There is something likely to happen. President Uhuru Kenyatta is likely to endorse Raila Odinga to be president publicly. The number of people who will apply to contest on an ODM ticket is going to be overwhelming. ODM must prepare for this.

In the last election, ODM did not win a single seat in Kisii not because Raila was unpopular but because of the sham nominations. However, Raila still got the majority of the presidential votes from the region. If ODM messes with the nomination, it will lead to voter apathy.

2. The Political formation

Whoever joins Raila as a running mate will determine his winning chances.

3. Voter Registration

Voter registration must be done. Raila must mobilise and ensure voters are registered in large numbers in his perceived strongholds. this will secure his votes from the newly-registered electorate. With the support of the ' the system', IEBC can be manipulated to supply kits that will favour Raila's stronghold.

4. Clear communication strategy

Raila must come up with a clear strategy. How are they going to react to DP Ruto (since he is perceived as Raila's opponent)? Raila ought to assemble his so-called loyalists to counter the statements made by DP Ruto. If Ruto continues lying, and Raila isn't responding, the masses will start believing in Ruto and that would be detrimental to Raila's ambition. He should be keen on countering his opponents' propaganda with facts.
