Raila's Presidential Application Postponed As Party Shifts Focus To BBI

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has today left its followers confused as it issued two statements regarding their preparation for the forthcoming general elections.

Earlier, the party indicated it had received 3 applications for candidates who are interested in vying for presidency. These were veteran politician Raila Odinga, and governors Ali Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya.

"The NEB (National Elections Board) shall scrutinize the three applications, vet the candidates as required by the ODM Elections and Nomination Rules and subsequent thereto announce the next processes and time table in accordance with the ODM Constitution," posted ODM earlier today.

However shortly after, the party's secretary general Edwin Sifuna indicated that the said process had been postponed to shift focus on the Building Bridges Initiative.

"..after consultations with the party leadership and NEB, the party has resolved to postpone the remaining NEB processes on this matter to focus on the BBI process. The NEB will, therefore suspend the vetting and/or further processing of the applications until after conclusion of the BBI process," the party indicated.
