Former President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed a European Union delegation and two envoys to his office in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Among the envoys were Meg Whitman, the US Ambassador to Kenya, and Valentin Zellweger, the Swiss Ambassador to Kenya. The purpose of their visit was a courtesy call and to discuss the ongoing political process of achieving lasting peace and stability in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

During the meeting, the delegates, along with Bernard Quintin, Deputy Managing Director of Africa, led the discussions on the current operational situation and the progress made in the region.

They expressed their support for the peace process in the DRC. In his role as the Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC)-Led Nairobi Peace Process, Uhuru Kenyatta received a report from his technical advisors regarding the DRC peace process.

Earlier in the day, he had also met with the East African Community Monitoring and Verification Mechanism.

The efforts to restore peace in eastern DRC have shown remarkable progress, particularly in North Kivu, where violence has significantly reduced since the commencement of the peace process. However, the situation in the region remains volatile, despite the positive developments.
