William Ruto’s rise to political stardom is not a one man endeavor. The former Agriculture Minister has been apprenticed by various political acumens among them is the German trained engineer who collectively ‘made’ Samoei Rift valley kingpin.
Despite of the escalating rivalry between the man from Sugoi and Moi’s son, the former is more established compared to Baringo senator who is currently staggering, politically that’s.
Born on 7th January 1945, Raila Odinga attended Kisumu Union Primary before proceeding to Maranda High School. His father then transferred Agwambo to German where he graduated in 1970 with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Welding. Before joining politics in earlier 90’s, Baba as he is popularly known by his supporters worked in a corporate world.
Mwai Kibaki’s sudden change of tune after 2002 elections prompted Jakom to make a sudden U-turn. He went to KANU and sought the services of William Ruto in opposing Waki draft constitution, also in his camp was Uhuru Kenyatta, Musalia Mudavadi, Joe Nyagah and Najib Balala.
Raila’s NO team won with a landslide against Kibaki’s Yes team, this victory formed basis for formation of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) the party he used to fire his second presidential shot in 2007. He retained Ruto and dispatched him to Rift Valley region to propagate Raila gospel a task he religiously did.
William managed to whittle down Daniel Moi’s influence and authority in the region and in return he established himself as the king the position he has since retained. Literally, if it wasn’t Raila’s dispatchment, then Samoei’s story would have been different.
