The standard has now reported that the embattled Political leader has today reported that while the Kenyan Government is working on having him detained forever in Kamiti, but through the will of the people most high and Kenyans of Goodwill, he might be free in the coming days.
According to the standard, Mike Sonko has moved to the High Court seeking orders blocking the hearing of terrorism charges against him.
Also, Through the effort, Sonko is also hoping to stop his detention for 30 days. The prosecution had asked court to allow them to hold the ex-governor so they can complete their investigations.
But on a more outrageous side, Mike Mbuvi Tonko has how revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his administration are now pressuring into supporting the Building Bridges Initiative. Through his lawyer, Sonko has argued that he's been given two choices only that is, either stay and rot in Jail or support the BBI report ahead of the upcoming referendum in July 2021.
“The purpose of this new wave of cases is to politically persecute the applicant and compel him to submit to the new ideology of the perpetrators. They want the applicant to support Building Bridges Initiative by force and without reasoning. They want the applicant to align to a particular ideology which he doesn’t want centrally to Article 38 which allows political freedom without fear or intimidation,” Sonko’s lawyer John Khaminwa argued.
Sonko has also demanded that the anti-terrorism police officers should free him immediately because he believes that he has no single case to answer.
On Monday, Sonko's Lawyer Told the court that his client was receiving inhuman treatment while in Police custody. This is after he disclosed that Sonko has been sleeping on the cold floor.
Sonko has been on the receiving end from the state, since last week but one when he alleged that PS Karanja Kibicho and other top Government officials facilitated in the burning of tyres in the 2017 post election violence.
