Tharaka Nithi is a name that is not new to many who were actively following the 2007 general elections. It's known for a block voting pattern to their chosen presidential candidate.
The county is headed by a governor His Excellency Onesmus Muthoni Njuki who is serving his first term in office after the first county governor, Hon Samuel Ragwa. Njuki will be defending his seat and several other candidates are likely to join the race to succeed the county boss.
The first leader who is likely to compete for the seat is the current Chuka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Erastus Njoka. Prof would be a threat to the incumbent following his development records in the institution which is located in the same county. The students coming from the university might also give their University boss mileage in the race through their energetic voice and support in the campaign. The VC entry into the gubernatorial race must not be taken for granted since he can easily sail to the top.
The other likely candidate in the race is the current senator Prof Kithure Kindiki. Kindiki who is a lawyer served as the Senate Majority Leader in his first term and the Deputy Speaker in his second term has the capability in his capacity to succeed the incumbent.
Though the race might attract some other candidates, it's likely to be a three-horse race between professor Njoka, Hon Kindiki and the incumbent.
