Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru with Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
The political transfer season in Kenya is fully open. Various players in the political field have started aligning to coalitions and parties that might see them have a successful season post 2022. Mt Kenya region which is known for its richness in numbers has been targeted by all leaders eyeing the statehouse in 2022.
In the United Democratic Alliance party led by the deputy president Dr William Ruto, the biggest question has always been, who will be the running mate. On Tuesday during an interview at Radio Maisha, the Embakasi North MP Hon James Mwangi Gakuya broke the ice citing that Dr Ruto had already agreed to a Mt Kenya running mate.
"Let me just say the truth about this. The signal is already out. The deputy president told us to arrange within ourselves (Mt Kenya leaders) and find him a running mate. So it is already evident that the deputy to Ruto will be from Central Kenya, unless we decide otherwise." the MP stated.

As the search for running mate remains a heavy task, the deputy president is yet again about to find himself between a rock and a hard place after the Kirinyaga governor Hon Anne Waiguru hinted at rejoining the hustler nation. According to Waiguru, it would be very hard for her to be reelected under the Jubilee party which had lost trust among the mt Kenya voters.
The UDA party might face in-house disagreements if at all Anne Waiguru will be back in Ruto's fold. This will be highly orchestrated by the fact that Waiguru's gubernatorial rival Hon Wangui Ngirici is also present in the United Democratic Alliance party.
Moments after Waiguru's hints, her 2022 rival Hon Wangui Ngirici who is also a Ruto ally went wild on twitter blasting the Kirinyaga boss. In one statement, Ngirici indirectly attacked Waiguru saying, "What happened to the politics of renting a kikuyu and not buying one?" She then welcomed Waiguru to UDA asking her to prepare for nominations ahead of the 2022 county polls.
