After failing to manage Mount Kenya politics in the past, the Head of State appears to have modified his strategy.
Previously, Uhuru appeared to employ a divide-and-conquer tactic. The strategy was a colossal failure. After realizing his error, the President has devised a new strategy: co-opting critics and opponents. This is precisely what is occurring in the Mount Kenya region right now.
Pro-Uhuru and pro-Ruto leaders from the region have been meeting in secret for the past few weeks. What is the plan of action?
The president is currently attempting to avoid a disaster in the highlands. To avert this, he is currently summoning the men of deputy president Dr. William Ruto to the table.
Mwangi Kiunjuri, the former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, and Moses Kuria, the Gatundu South MP, have now moderated their criticism of the President. This will be a game-changer in the politics of Mount Kenya's region.
If I were Ruto, I would be really concerned. A wind of change could be blowing across the region soon. Uhuru appears to be playing his cards smartly, and before the DP realizes it, he'll be thrown from Mount Kenya.
Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Kuria, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, and Kiunjuri met on Monday, and it might be a watershed moment in the region's politics.
