Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i could soon be a free man if reports being speculated from the State House are anything to go by.
On Friday, NTV aired a story saying that three Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MPs from the Kisii region were on Friday, 10 March, hosted by President William Ruto at the State House, where the agenda was reportedly about the troubled CS.
According to the reports, the MPs asked the President to spare Dr Matiang'i and save him from the troubles that he is currently facing.
President Ruto is said to have issued a condition that before he steps in and helps Matiang'i, the former CS must cease doing any drama and unnecessary theatrics
The government reportedly now wants former CS Matiang’i to end 'unnecessary theatrics and lie low' to save himself.
However, President Ruto reportedly noted that he will try to save Matiang'i under the carpet so that the end results do not paint a picture of his office trying to interfere with National Police Service (NPS) matters yet the NPS is an independent agency.
Dr Matiangi was recently grilled at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) where he spent close to 9 hours
ODM leader Raila Odinga was one of the leaders who went to DCI head offices when Matiangi was being grilled. He was, however, denied entry which made his cause a scene at the gate.
Other sources revealed that Matiangi was released after former President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly threatened that he would join Raila at the DCI headquarters and camp in solidarity with his former super CS.
Dr Matiangi was being grilled over an alleged raid on his Karen home. Matiangi had a few weeks claimed that his home was raided by police officers who wanted to search his house.
