
The High Court in Mombasa has today delivered a ruling that could aggravate Mr Mike Sonko’s troubles in his quest to vie for the Mombasa governor seat.
In the ruling, the court declined to Withdraw case that the former Nairobi County Governor is being challenged against contesting for the tip position using the Wiper Democratic Party of Kalonzo Musyoka.

One of the petitioners in a case challenging Mr Sonko’s suitability to vie in Mombasa has sought to withdraw the suit, but his co-petitioner wants the case to proceed.
Justice Mativo also ruled that it is only the court which can determine the juridical effects of the petition and not the petitioner.
“The court may proceed to hear the petition despite the wishes of the petitioner to discontinue,” said Justice Mativo adding that granting the orders sought is a matter of judicial discretion.
