Ukambani leaders Dr Alfred Mutai and his counterpart Charity Ngilu, governors of Machakos and Kitui County respectively have no reason to smile as Uhuru kenyatta cancels his trip to the region.
President Uhuru kenyatta was expected to tour the region this week, where he was to launch different government projects in the region. According to the president, he claimed that the visit to the region might leads to increase in cases of Covid 19.
On 29th June 2021, Ukambani leaders held a meeting to discuss development issues and challenges facing the region amidst the President visit. They were expected to give their grievances to the head of state concerning leadership, water shortages, infrastructure development among other challenges affecting the region.
Political formation was also expected to be part of the reason on why the president wants to visit the region. It is in public domain that Kitui governor has been on record criticising the hustler movement associated with deputy president. She has been calling upon all the leaders including wiper leaders Kalonzo Musyoka to come together in order to glitch the presidential seat. According to her, if they failed to team up together deputy president will automatically defeat them.
It is not known when the president will rescheduled again his visit to the region.
