State Prosecutor Requests a Mental Assessment For Jacque Maribe Over Monica Kimani's Murder Case

The State Prosecutor on Wednesday, September 29, requested that the court assist with determining the mental condition of media personality Jacque Maribe in the Monica Kimani case.

Catherine Mwaniki, who is the State Prosecutor told the court that Maribe's lawyer Katwa Kigen had recently shown that his client was depressed over the charges she is facing. The prosecutor raised concern and inquired as to whether Maribe is mentally stable to follow the case proceedings.

"We need to know whether the second charge is mentally fit to follow the proceedings and to proceed with the trial and affirm that she isn't depressed," Mwaniki expressed.

"In case she isn't well, we need to have a mental assessment since all the charged must be mentally fit to proceed with the trial," she added.

The court heard that Maribe could be in a condition of depression having been weighed down by the ongoing trial in the demise of Monica Kimani.

On Tuesday, September 28, a witness who shed light on the death of the Kenyan businesswoman claimed that he got unusual text messages from Kimani on the night she passed on. The witness told the court he got a text from Monica requesting that he go through the night with her which was odd to him since he had known her for only a month.

He let the court know that he met Monica at her home at 9:20 pm on September 18, 2018, after he headed to her apartment yet he didn't go into her house.

"She went to the parking lot, embraced and let me know she required to return quickly since she had two guests in her home, a Lebanese man and another man, whom she said worked as a security officer at State House, Nairobi."

"At 11 pm, I got the odd love message from Monica, requesting that I proceed to help her sleep. I tried calling her, yet both her Kenyan and South Sudanese phone lines were not going through. I texted her, yet she didn't respond," the witness affirmed. Joseph 'Jowie' Irungu's lawyer questioned the witness and got some information about the idea of his relationship with Monica to which he responded they were simply friends.
