Confirming the 11 am incident, Mwingi East Sub county Commander Joseph Yagan said the driver of the bus was trying to steer the vehicle past a flooded bridge but the bus was overwhelmed by water tides.
"This is a river and it was flooding. The driver lost control and slid into a ditch. The bus capsized next to the bridge. The driver has also died. The bus was leaving Mwingi Central towards Nuu in Mwingi East," Yagan said.
In a video which has gone viral on the social media, passengers are seen raising their hands through the windows crying for help as the bus capsizes gradually.
