Special Police Unit Deployed at DCI Headquarters Amidst Interrogation of Ex-Cs Matiang'i

The visit to the DCI headquarters by the Former Interior Cabinet Secretary has become the talk of town given the circumstances that have surrounded the event.

At first, the Former CS and his lawyers were barred from accessing the premises because of that. Dr Matiang'i and the leaders accompanying him were cleared and let in after a while.

According to Otiende Amollo, they had to wait five hours before the 15-minute interrogation began. As this happened, Dr Matiang'i supporters thronged outside the DCI headquarters.

According to reliable sources, a special police unit was sent to the DCI headquarters and some of the officers are pictured manning the gate to the premises.

The special unit is the Anti-Terror Elite Squad, which was established in 2003 as a response to the increased terrorist activities in Kenya and the East African region.

The unit operates under the National Police Service and is responsible for gathering intelligence, conducting investigations, and preventing and countering terrorist attacks.

The ATPU has been involved in several high-profile counterterrorism operations in Kenya including Garrisa and Westgate terror attcaks.
