The highly anticipated Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) appeal at the Supreme Court is expected to kick of soon with the BBI secretariat led by Hon Junet Mohammed and Dennis Waweru set to table the appeal to the justice Martha Koome led bench. The decision to appeal was however an afterthought since the chief proponent of the bill Raila Odinga indicated immediately after it's failure at the Court of Appeal that he was not going to the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling.
In the latest IEBC statement to the press, the commission's legal officer has said the commission is not involved in the Supreme Court appeal. Mr Michael Goa has told the Public Accounts Committee that the decision to challenge the appellate court's decision was made by Chairman Wafula Chebukati and two commissioners and not was not his decision.
The five Court of Appeal judges who nullified the BBI bill Justice Daniel Musinga, Gatembu Kairu, Patrick Kiage Hannah Okwengu and Roselyne Nambuye upheld the permanent injunction on IEBC to conduct any referendum in the country for lack of quorum.
