SriLanka airlines began operating in Kenya in April 2021.The launch of the direct flights came back after the launch, a boost to local tourism and manufacture.

According to Amitabh AnthonyPillai, Regional manager of Middle East North and Northern Africa the growing passenger demand and near capacity cargo volumes have necessitated the move to increase the frequency with effect from October this year

Majority of the cargo head to Australia and this has positioned the flights to be cargo bias. The travel time was initially third hours when one had to do indirect flights through the middle East. The travel time was to cut to six hours.
