Ruto"/>Ruto said that the action was taken as a result of recommendations made by a tribunal presided over by Judge Aggrey Muchelule in a gazette notice published on March 1st.
In addition, the notice stated that the legislation found Masit's actions and the circumstances surrounding them to be so serious that the sole remedy is for her position as a state officer to be terminated.
"I take note that the laundry list of flagrant constitutional violations committed by Irene Cherop Masit, as listed in the tribunal's report, meets the criteria for the subject state officer's dismissal from office.
"Irene Cherop Masit's time in office as a member of the IEBC is to be and is terminated with immediate effect, "It said.
The president also disclosed that Masit's post with the IEBC was vacant.
The notice read, "I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, declare a vacancy in the position of the sixth member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission," in reference to the authority granted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
According to the tribunal's findings, Masit should be fired for gravely breaking both the law and the constitution as well as engaging in flagrant misconduct.
