According to sports journalist Stephen Mukangai,Kenyan athlete Maina Mwangi has been banned by Athletics Intergrity Unit (AIU) for being found with a substance called Nandrolone which is considered to be against Athletics ethics. According to the Athletics governing body,Maina has breached the rules and will not compete in any international race for three years. The case has been reported at a time when Maina was becoming one of the well known Kenyan long distance athlete. It is a big blow to the individual career of Maina as well as the country since he has been representing Kenya in world competitions.
Such cases have been witnessed in the country and Maina could be one among the many talented Kenyans who have been denied opportunities due to the use of doping substance. Kenya will have to look into such issues since most of those sportsmen found guilty have declared their innocence. The country should look at the type of meals and diet for the athletes to help them avoid such career threatening instances. We wish him all the best ahead.
