Race to succeed Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya who is serving is last term has intensified after vocal Shinyalu constituency member of parliament Hon. Justus Kizito declared that he is back in the race.
Kizito who declared interest in the seat but later backed down, has made it clear that he will be going for nothing less than the gubernatorial seat. The vocal ODM MP stated that having successfully ousted prof Kutima from the ODM Kakamega chairmanship, he will only be seeking to succeed governor Oparanya.
He stated that he wants to see the people of Kakamega county enjoying the fruits of devolution after clinching the top seat.
The race has now attracted 11 candidates including UDA's Boni Khalwale, ANC's Cleophas Malala and Ayub Suvula, deputy governor Prof Kutima, former minister Amukowa Anagwe, KENTRACO CEO Fernandes Barasa, Sam Omukoko, Laban Atemba, Leonard Shimaka, and Michael Osundwa
Kizito will be fighting over ODM ticket with prof Kutima, who has been working closely with his boss governor Oparanya.
