A bouncer from a popular club in Eldoret town, located along the Eldoret-Kapsabet road, has been charged with assaulting a customer at the club and causing serious bodily harm.
Amos Tekis, also known as Sendee, aged 35, is alleged to have injured a doctor from Eldoret at the Tamasha club. The charge sheet stated that the incident occurred at the Tamasha Club in the Kapseret Sub-County on the night of November 27, 2022.
The court was told that the accused attacked Dr. Evans Rono, causing him serious harm, contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code. Police have been investigating the incident since it was reported at the Langas police station on November 28, 2022.
The complainant recorded a statement after being discharged from a hospital in the area and filling in a P3 form. Mr. Tekis, who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Areri on Wednesday, denied the charge and was released on bail of Ksh. 10,000 in cash.
His employer has already fired him after the incident. The case will be heard on July 6. This incident is one of many where bouncers attack customers in various entertainment spots and take the law into their own hands.
Some customers from Eldoret have expressed their concern over the increase in cases of bouncers assaulting them without following the law. “These people pretend like they are using their laws. Most of them do not have respect for their customers. There are many cases of violence against people enjoying themselves in this town, many of these cases go unreported,” said Elijah Ayieko, an Eldoret lawyer.
Mr. Ayieko warned bouncers against taking the law into their own hands. The lawyer said that due to many misconceptions about what bouncers are allowed to do, many people are being tortured because of the violence of bouncers.
