Change Of Tune In Goma DRC Days After KDF Soldiers Announced Victory

There was hope that the growing fear in the Democratic Republic of Congo could be reduced after the M23 group agreed to surrender to the East African Union Regional Force (EACRF).

A new report by the United Nations Panel of Experts says communal violence has increased in lately, particularly among the Akaaka and Teke communities in the west of the country.

A UN panel of experts on the DRC said this week that the violence in Kwamut, in May-Ndombe province, 200 km from Kinshasa, should be considered a public security threat to DR Congo.

Fighting between the rebel M23 group and the army in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), continued on Monday, according to residents contacted by telephone by AFP from Goma, the provincial capital of North.

Congo's M23 rebels withdraw from seized positions in goodwill gesture. The M23 stated it was handing Kibumba over to the East African Community’s military force as a “goodwill gesture” in line with recent peace talks in Angola’s capital Luanda. It urged the authorities in Kinshasa to “grab this opportunity with both hands”.

Nobel Prize winner Denis Mukwege says that the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is quite similar to what is happening in Ukraine with Russia clarifying that Rwanda can’t be accused of attacking the DRC the same time DRC continues to financially support Rwanda.
