Al-Shabaab Claims Killing 14 KDF Soldiers Today as KDF's Spokesperson Clears The Air With New Update

Al-Shabaab has today claimed that they killed at least 14 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers in an improvised explosives attack in Lamu County, Kenya.

The militant group used its affiliate media in Somalia to report the claim.

The group said an explosive they had planted on the road targeting KDF vehicle hit the target and killed more than a dozen soldiers.

KDF Spoksperson gives update

However, KDF through its Colonel Public Affairs and KDF Spokesperson, Colonel Esther Wanjiku, confirmed the same attack, but at the same time debunked Al-Shabaab's false propaganda and allegations.

Colonel Esther Wanjiku confirmed the attack by saying one soldier sustained serious injuries. The injured soldier was later airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment at the KDF memorial hospital.

"12 October 2021, at around 0900hrs, KDF soldiers operating under Operation Amani Boni while on routine patrol between Milimani and Baure in Lamu County encountered an IED attack orchestrated by suspected Al Shabaab terrorists," read KDF's update in part.
