Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is the Facilitator for the East African Community peace process in the Eastern DRC. Today, he held a consultative meeting with the chairman and senior political and military leaders of the M23 group in order to seek to bring peace to the Eastern DRC and North Kivu in particular.

According to a press release shared by the Office of the 4th President of the Rebublic of Kenya on twitter, the leaders of the M23 urged president Kenyatta to assist in assuring that there is safety in the DRC and that citizens rights are upheld and recognized. 
They also requested the former President of Kenya to help ensure that local and foreign armed groups fighting in the Eastern DRC also lay down their arms, cease any fighting or attacks on the M-23 and seek resolutions that to conflict through peaceful means.
