Recently, Israel has faced some security challenges such as shootings, clashes at the Al Aqsa mosque and rocket attacks from Gaza. This has added more pressure on Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to act fast and bring the situation under control.
However, the opposition wing led by former Prime Minister Benjamin Nentanyahu has piled pressure on Bennett criticizing him for the recent security lapses. Unfortunately for Netanyahu, Bennett would not take his criticisms lying down and issued a twitter response of his own.
On his twitter page, the PM wrote, "Mr. Netanyahu, when you were in power, the terrorists fired 13,000 rockets at the inhabitants of the south, carried out 1,500 attacks, set fire to 45,000 donums (4,500 hectares) of our fields, killed 238 Israelis and injured 1,700. You also transferred suitcases of dollars to Hamas." Qatar has been financially supporting the militant group.
Israeli politics has recently become very divisive and the country held quite a number of elections in recent years. The divide between the right and the left is widening. Bennet who is a rightwing politician came into power on 13 June 2021 after he entered into a coalition agreement with Yair Lapid and a number of other politicians.
