According to an FBI affidavit filed in federal court in Columbus, Ohio, Shihab Ahmed Shihab, 52, informed an FBI informant that he planned to sneak at least four other Iraqis into the nation over the border with Mexico to carry out the operation.
Two of the hit men would be former Iraqi intelligence officers, while the others would be members of Islamic State or another extremist Shihab group named "al-Raed" located in Qatar. According to the complaint, Shihab told the informant that they wanted to kill Bush, who authorized the invasion of Iraq in 2003, "because they believed he was responsible for killing many Iraqis and tearing the country apart."

Shihabwas arrested early Tuesday and charged with an immigration offense as well as aiding and abetting the attempted murder of a former US official in federal court. He allegedly offered to pay tens of thousands of dollars to help a second FBI informant sneak members of their family into the United States.Shihab entered the United States on a tourist visa in September 2020 and applied for asylum after his visa expired in March 2021.The FBI had the first informant contact Shihab shortly after that, according to the affidavit.
