All About The KDF Band That Entertains Kenyans During Mashujaa Day Celebrations

When it comes to Mashujaa Day Celebrations that will be held in Kirinyaga County this day, the Kenya Defense Forces always steals the show.

This is because most Kenyans are not used to seeing the army out in public glare performing their routines for the President and the public on a daily basis.

One of the arms of the Kenya Defense Forces that always sticks out during these celebrations is the Kenya Army Band.

The band always plays beautiful music while entertaining the guests at any National Celebrations that are held in the country.

The band members rarely see any combat action as most of their work entails attending the music school that is located at Langata Barracks in Nairobi.

The Kenya Army Band was formed right after Kenya attained its independence from the British in the year 1963.

It is the primary musical unit in the army as well as the Kenya Defense Forces in Kenya and responsible for entertaining Kenyans at national celebrations including Jamhuri Day, Mashujaa Day and Remembrance Day.

The band members must be within 18 to 26 years at the time of enlistment into the Kenya Defense Forces.

The members are then taken through a five year training at the Langata Army Barracks in Nairobi before you can see them perform at such national functions.

The Langata Army Barracks is also home to the Kenya Army School of Music that has produced some of the most memorable talents in the army as far as music is concerned.

Today, the Kenya Army Band will be performing at the Mashujaa Day Celebrations in Kirinyaga County Stadium where the Commander in Chief of The Kenya Defense Forces, President Uhuru Kenyatta, among other dignitaries will be.
