Tension is now simmering in neighbouring Lamu areas after another re-emergence of what is believed to be retaliatory attacks.

On Tuesday, Kenya commandos killed almost 15 al-Shabaab militants in Lamu after successful sting operation at Bodhei area within the expansive Boni forest, Lamu East.

Lamu County commissioner Irungu Macharia said the forces were drawn from the multi-agency team dubbed Amani Boni that was initiated in 2015 with their key roles being to ambush al-Shabaab militants believed to be taking cover inside the Boni forest.

During the Sunday incident, no one was injured. The suspected Alshabaab militants were planning to plot attacks on the locals and their was later cut short by curious members of the public who notified the authorities.

They instead torch equipment belonging to China Communications Construction Company in Lamu at around 12pm.

The company has now suffered major losses due to constant attacks by the Somalia-based Islamist terror-based al Shabaab militants.
