DCI Breaks Silence On Story Wrote By A Media Group On How Ex-KDF Officer Was Tortured In DCI Cells

The Nation Media Group published an article on how a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was allegedly tortured and locked up for a year in a dark cell at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters without being taken to court.

Frankline Opiyo Ogonji claimed that he was abducted by DCI officers who drove him to the DCI headquarters on the busy Kiambu Road.

Opiyo also claimed there were three attempts to kill him while in “illegal” custody in a cell.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has responded to the story which has gone viral.

DCI has made it clear that it does does not run a remand facility at its headquarters.

The Directorate stated that it is not aware of any such person arrested by its detectives. It termed the story published by the Nation as inaccurate and preposterous.

DCI has called upon the Media group to promote ethical standards of Journalism and professionalism. It has also called upon the Independent Policing Oversight Authority where the matter is alleged to have been reported to expedite their investigations over the allegations.
