Why Gen. Francis Ogolla Might Miss Out To Be The Next CDF To General Badi

Who will succeed Robert Kibochi as the head of the chief defense force (CDF) is increasingly becoming more apparent.

After serving out his entire tenure, CDF Kibochi is anticipated to resign from his position. Although Gen. Kibochi has reached the legal retirement age of 62, his resignation from service was postponed due to the difficult political transition that followed the 2022 General Election.

The new military commander is expected to be either Lt Gen Francis Ogolla or Lt Gen Mohammed Badi, the former commander of the NMS, according to Kenya Defence Forces regulations.

General Badi may take over as CDF going forward, according to reports, as General Ogolla is apparently out of the running.

Gen. Francis Ogolla has reached retirement age, which means he is no longer a factor in discussions on who should be the next CDF, according to an article in The Standard today.

Given that military positions cannot be bypassed, General Badi is the obvious choice to succeed General Ogolla as CDF if he retires this year.

It is therefore obvious that the Kenya Air Force must produce the following CDF. General Samson Mwathethe, the CDF before CDF Kibochi, who came from the Kenya Navy and retired after five years in office, was from the Army.
