Deadly Raid on Al Shabaab's Hide-Out Leaves 15 Dead, Bombs and AK-47 Machine Guns Recovered

In a raid in the Bodhei area of Lamu East's massive Boni forest, at least 15 suspected Al Shabaab militants were gunned down. According to reports released on Tuesday, January 18, a multi-agency force charged with conducting operations in the dangerous Boni forest encircled the militia group. According to reports, an unknown number of militants were seriously injured during the raid. The sting operation also resulted in the destruction of the militia group's command and logistic bases in Bodhei. The organization is accused of being behind a recent round of attacks in Lamu that have claimed the lives of over 15 individuals.

IEDs, communication equipment, multiple uniforms, machine guns, ammo, and AK 47 rifles were found following the raid. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji, asked the Inspector General of Police (IG), Hillary Mutyambia, to investigate remarks and posts made by 12 other people on Facebook about the incidents in order to curb the growing occurrences of insecurity in the area. DPP Haji expressed worry over a Facebook page called 'Lamu County Politics Unlimited Group,' where people posted racist messages. He told Mutyambai that he had 30 days to submit a full report on the page.
