KDF soldiers make a great hand-over in Somalia

Kenya is among member countries that pledged to keep peace in the neighbouring country of Somalia. Somalia has been facing political instability for ages. Kenya Defence Forces today have handed over four newly built classrooms and a sports stadium to the local administration in Ras Kamboni, Somalia. Leading the Forces is Deputy Commander Colonel Pascal Kitiro. He said the facility will enable Somali people to boost their educational system.

Southern Sector District Commissioner-General Ibrahim Mohammed has emphasized the importance of education and thanked KDF for supporting locals in the area. The project was aimed at providing quality education as well as development.

The headteacher of Ras Kamboni primary school Abdi Harum really thanked the soldiers saying that even the pupils were happy to be in a classroom with desks. Moreover, the school was handed a sports stadium, jerseys, balls and goal post nets.

“Sports is a useful activity in keeping the youth busy and away from joining dangerous groups. With a high unemployment rate and nothing else to do, our youth will be easily sucked into dangerous groups,” a youth leader Salim Goni said.

Thanks to our great soldiers who keep us safe and ensure peace all around us.
