Officers at a past operation
There was drama on Tuesday, May 16, after Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and National Police Services (NPS) commandos raided one home within Kakapul Sublocation in Baringo County.
According to the update that has been issued this evening by NPS, the officers raided the home and recovered an AK-47 rifle with several rounds of ammunition.
NPS revealed that the officers and soldiers who carried out the joint operation are among officers who have been camping in the North Rift for the past few months, for a joint operation dubbed Maliza Uhalif North Rift.
"On 16/05/2023, a multi-agency security team raided a home within Kakapul Sublocation and recovered one AK 47 Rifle and one magazine loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition, amidst the ongoing Operation Maliza Uhalifu in the North Rift," NPS said in part.
Apart from recovering the deadly weapons, the officers also recovered suspected stolen construction materials.
"They also recovered a wire mesh suspected to have been stolen from Chinese Road Construction Company from the same home," National Police Service added.
However, the police, which is the lead agency in the ongoing joint operation did not reveal whether any arrest was made or not.
The Maliza Uhalifu North Rift operation between the police and the military was launched a few months ago, with the aim of flushing out ruthless bandits from the region, who have been wreaking havoc for so many years
President William Ruto on Sunday revealed that the operation will not stop until the bandits are totally defeated. He noted that the military is going to set up camps in the region and make sure that elements of bandits are fished out as soon as they are spotted.
He also instructed the military to construct schools that the bandits destroyed in the past.
