Though the deadly attack cost him a normal life, he says nothing can stop him from serving his nation. Alex was only 21-years-old when he was on a routine patrol in Kolbio area and his Armoured Personnel Career (APC) hit an explosive device.
As it turned out, together with other KDF Soldiers, they were under attack from the Al-Shabaab militants. Major Hinga narrates the painful experience he had the first time he had but never gave up. He sat inside the destroyed APC still giving commands to his platoon to retaliate.
The soldier says that he was helped by the APC driver who put his legs on his seat whilst engaging the attackers. Despite the loss, Major Hinga still pledges to KDF's "Mission Ready" philosophy and is willing to gladly keep protecting Kenya.
