The family of late 22 year old KDF soldier Gilbert Korir who was shot dead by a lone gun man at a military base in Somalia is still struggling to come into terms with his death.
His mother Nancy Mutai says her son's star was dimmed when he was too young. His siblings depended on him financially and now they are worried about how they will go on with their education. Three of them are in secondary school and two in University.
Nancy said her son did not leave any grandson they can remember him with and they wish he was not deployed in such a risky area while still too young in his career. He had joined KDF in 2020 and was immediately deployed to Somalia after graduating.
Gilbert was planning to come back to Kenya in March 2023.
A day before he died, he called his mother and requested her to supervise the planting of crops in a farm he bought in the neighbourhood.
