The Russian Orthodox church alternatively legally known as the Moscow Patriarchate is one of the autocephalous Eastern Orthodox Christian churches. Autocephaly is the status of a hierarchical Christian church whose head bishop does not report to any higher-ranking bishop.
Today, military analyst Guy Plopsky posted a photo on one of his social media pages showing Russian Orthodox priests blessing the RS-24 Yars thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missile. The photo was followed by a short statement that read, "If you think Russian Orthodox priests blessing patrol boats is odd, remember they also bless intercontinental ballistic missile."
According to the photo posted by Guy Plopsky, the priests wore orange robes and were spotted spraying holy water on the ICBM truck nearby. The RS-24 Yars is a Russian multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle. It's also equipped with a thermonuclear warhead. However, the reasons for blessing Russia's military weapons is unknown but probably its for good luck.
