On Monday, March 13, in response to complaints from locals about the lack of action taken to flush out robbers, the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) increased its presence in the North Rift.
More KDF troops and heavy weaponry were sent to the North Rift as the phase two war against the bandits set to begin.
After Interior Security Cabinet Security (CS) Kithure Kindiki ordered residents to leave areas with a high concentration of bandits, the cavalry was sent in the next day.
On Monday afternoon, March 13, a military convoy entered volatile Baringo County, prepared to end the decades-long insecurity that has plagued the area.
Heavy artillery was brought in to retake territory taken by cattle rustlers and robbers.
The new step by KDF occurred as security forces came under fire for their handling of the security situation.
