Africa has been leading in cases of wars and violence perpetrated by armed groups that include terrorists, bandits, and rebels. Each of these groups normally has its own motives for committing their heinous crimes. Governments at some point get tired of the killings and decide to involve military action against the criminals.
Here at home, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has been directly involved in combating armed groups. A good example is the crushing of Sabaot lands defence force and the pushing of al-Shabaab terrorists deep into Somalia. However, in some cases, KDF soldiers are deployed for peacekeeping missions.
What is surprising is that during such missions, they still carry their heavy weapons and military hardware. This is because, even though the nature of the task is to restore peace, there is still the danger of an attack. A soldier is expected to fight for his life during such attacks hence why they carry weapons.
