War on terror has been Kenya's main agenda since 2010. Despite backlash and unending attacks on Kenyan soil, the government has stood tall on its toes to ensure the netizens are safe from any external and internal terrorist attack. The Kenya Defence Forces have been on the forefront with the help of other AMISOM units fighting and protecting Africa at large.

A multi-agency security team was deployed to the expansive Boni Forest in Lamu county following frequent attacks on troops and Kenyans around the area, which had so far left several dead. The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border which has been under attack by terrorists in the past.

Boni Forest is an operation zone as the national government has since 2015 conducted a multi-agency security exercise dubbed Linda Boni, which is aimed at flushing out al Shabaab militants believed to be hiding there. Earlier researches by government security agencies say 30 percent of the country’s security problems are traced to the porous Somalia border often penetrated by terrorists.
