Over the years, the world has been fighting with the rise in terrorism which has been precipitated by extreme religious beliefs. Many terrorists have been operating under the narrative that they are on course of a 'holy war' what they call in Islam jihad. One of the countries that has been affected much by these terrorist activities is the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Boko Haram have terrorized the North Eastern region, killing, maiming and kidnapping school going children. Their long serving leader, Abubakar Shekau has however been confirmed dead, Reuters confirmed.
According to a report that was in the public domain, Abubakar Shekau was killed by rebel jihadists. However, the latest confirmation is that the Boko Haram leader committed suicide after confrontation with his fellow leaders in the organization.
The Boko Haram insurgents have for many years been a thorn in the flesh for the Nigerian government, with the Nigerian citizenry accusing their government of ineptitude.
With the demise of this key personal in the Boko Haram organization, it will be expected that the Nigerian government capitalizes on this leadership gap and finish the group completely before they recognize.
