Boast For Chiefs, Sub-Chiefs in This Region as Interior CS Kindiki Plans to Give Them Guns

Chief from the North Eastern region can now breathe a sigh of relief after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki ordered that they be given firearms to boast security in the region.

Addressing residents in Wajir on Thursday, the new CS said the administrators will be issued with guns as one way of containing the sporadic banditry menace that has hit the region.

This comes just five days after the national government announced its plans on training and arming the local administrators in the volatile areas of the country to combat cattle rustlers and bandits.

Kithure Kindiki defended the directive stating that the local administrators are the first line of defense whenever bandits strike.

"All the chiefs and their assistants from North Eastern region will be vetted, trained and armed and they will work together with the National Police Reservists and special forces to end banditry and cattle rustling,” stated Kindiki.

He has also ordered the immediate recruitment of 200 National Police Reservists(NPRs), which he said will be deployed along the borders of Wajir and Isiolo counties to assist in curbing banditry as well.
