'I'm Sure We Would Understand Each Other" General Muhoozi Sends Notice To M23 Rebel Leader Makenga

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba of Uganda is now asking the African Union and EAC to recognize General Emmanuel Makenga as the head of the M23 rebel group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In a tweet on Saturday, Kainerugaba questioned the peace envoy's choice to disregard Makenga, whom he characterized as a great combatant.

Kainerugaba, President Yoweri Museveni's son, would have already gotten in touch with Makenga, the de facto leader of the rebel group, if he were still in charge of Uganda's land forces. Kainerugaba stated that he was certain he and Makenga would get along.

"If I was still in the CLF, General Makenga and I would meet immediately away. I have no doubt that we could communicate since he is a great fighter. When we were prepared to communicate with Joseph Kony and the LRA, why didn't M23?" in a stance.

His remarks follow those of former president Uhuru Kenyatta, who stressed that any negotiations between the DRC and the M23 rebels must be predicated on President Felix Tshisekedi's legitimacy as the nation's legitimate leader. Kenyatta is facilitating peace talks in the DRC on behalf of the EAC.

The DRC's geographical integrity and sovereignty must also be preserved, along with the constitutional order of the country.

"The factions that currently possess weapons should lay them down and pursue the path of peace through negotiation because there is nothing to be gained by using them. People seek peace because they are sick of conflict. Numerous thousands have died, while still more have been forced to flee their homes and are unable to go about their daily lives "added he.
