The North Rift continues to be plagued by the economic activity of cattle raiding and killing of innocent people, causing tension in the region. While the government has been making efforts to end the banditry, there are suspicions that someone is encouraging the bandits to continue their attacks and remain fearless.
One individual who has come under suspicion is Samburu county governor, Lelelit Jonathan. It is alleged that he has been facilitating the training of militia squads who engage in gunfire battles with the Kenyan Defense Forces. However, the governor has denied these allegations, stating that he has no connection to the bandits operating in the region.
He has refuted the accusations, claiming that he is not involved in any unscrupulous activities. He has expressed concern that intelligence officers may be providing false information to cause trouble for him.
